Santa Cruz Island
Immense underground lava tunnels crisscross parts of Santa Cruz Island, in some places stretching for several kilometers. These fascinating geological features were formed when the outer edges of lava flows cooled and solidified, creating rock walls that insulated the molten lava inside, allowing it to continue flowing and leaving behind hollow tubes. The tunnels are enclosed by jagged rock and offer a unique opportunity to explore the volcanic past of the Galápagos.
