San Cristobal IslandEl Junco Lagoon, in a small crater which is in turn located within the large caldera of a volcano, is the only permanent freshwater lake in the Galápagos. From the top of the crater there are breathtaking views of the lagoon and surrounding hills. It is frequented by dozens of frigatebirds, and you can also see Galápagos pintails, moorhens, and pied-billed grebes.
